Mastering

Decode and SweScreen Shot 2016-05-19 at 10.26.09ater Weather was mastered in a very similar way. For the light compression, I had the ratio at 6.7:1 and the threshold at -14.2dB. This meant that there was only a tiny bit of the mix was actually being compressed but most of the mix was dry. I set the ratio for the heavy compression at 2.8:1 which meant that for eveScreen Shot 2016-05-20 at 10.32.14.pngry 2.8dB only 1 was coming back uncompressed. This meant that the majority of the mix was being compressed. I dropped the fader of the heavy compression track to zero dB, then slowly raised it to find the place that had the best sound and best combination of both light and heavy compression.

When mastering ‘End Of All Things’, I had the threshold at -7.2dB and the heavy compression at -20.7dB with the ratio at 6.8:1. Due to the fact that the heavy compression is very heavy wScreen Shot 2016-05-20 at 10.37.01.pnghen adding it to the final mix with the light compression, a lot less of it is needed to be added therefore i had the fader at -21.0 to get the best combination.

When recording ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, I had the light compression at 2.3:1 and the threshold at -5.9dB. For the heavy compression, I had the threshold at -19dB and the ratio at 6.5:1. When I was raising the fader on the heavy compression, it made a combination of having the heavy compression for the volume but also keeping a good peak leScreen Shot 2016-05-19 at 10.58.07vel for the whole mix.
